For any of the @medium or Medium Staff still following this thread — we have performed numerous tests where reads and views (to a lesser extent) were not recorded. Specifically, the inclusion of images and links seems to break things fairly regularly.

We have also triangulated using reputable third parties which indicate a similar loss of views on your site. Thankfully, Google and others seem a bit more savvy. Additional transparency might be helpful… we love the site but this sort of thing can be very frustrating.
