Raise The Colors — It Is Time To Change The Race
For three decades, I have worked in the field of analytics. For the first decade, I wasn’t even aware. It took another for me to realize the history, principles, and discipline so necessary for success, and yet, so overlooked by so many of my colleagues. The science of Aristotle has long lingered in the shadows.
A New Day Has Dawned
Today, as the sun rose across the bay, a new day was dawning on my career. For the first time, I woke to come to work for a company that puts analytics first. For a company that believes that true analytic success is within reach for all of its clients. One that realizes that success is a function of discipline, perspective, and passion. One that recognizes that it must be understandable, measurable, meaningful, applicable, and efficient. That those five words are the magic of analytics — not meaningless statistics, vague buzzwords, and over-priced technologies ordained by experts in title only.
Today, I officially take the helm of Corsair’s Analytics. She is a ship that has been waiting patiently in the harbor for nearly a year. She is also the final piece of a plan I began investing in quite a few years ago.
Corsair’s Ventures, my holding company, is seeking to change the race. We believe that analytics and analytic education are broken, that a huge divide exists between the worlds of academia and corporate business. It is time for someone to bridge that gap, to venture those waters.
Spirit of Adventure
Hundreds of years ago, there was another gap between two worlds, the Old and New. In the hope of bridging that divide, the courts of Europe licensed intrepid entrepreneurs to sail into the unknown. They were issued Lettre De Course and known as Corsairs. They issued stock, courted venture capitalists and energetic crews, and joined “the race” (de course). They were merchants, innovators, adventurers, and passionate souls.

Our newest launch is a full-service analytic shop. Consulting, coaching, hiring, capacity development, solutions development, and every type of analytic and decision support capable of providing our clients major returns on their investment. We will deliver a level of excellence that is sorely lacking among our competitors and, once at scale, we will deliver it in one of the most flexible and cost effective approaches possible (our secret sauce).
Our client list already rings the globe, from software developers in Japan to a medical technology company in silicon valley, financial services in Austin and local Baltimore to a growing fashion giant in France. Not bad for my first day! But we have a lot of growing to do…
